I’d satirize this story, but it’s a self-parody, and so saves me the work. The stylist for Sex and the City is doing a Barbie-themed line of clothing - for adult women.
All Dolled Up with Barbie by Patricia Field.
Field has partnered with the most famous doll of them all, Barbie, to do a new collection of Barbie-inspired sportswear, handbags and jewelry to be sold at Macy’s, Hot Topic and Field’s own House of Field boutique in New York.
The Barbie fashion line “ranges from the vintage inspired leopard print capelets or a sexy stretch-satin ’50s sweetheart dress to more contemporary grafitti [sic] print hoodies and t-shirts emblazoned with phrases like ‘I Want My Dream House.’”
The cross-pollination between Barbie, Carrie Bradshaw, and your little girls will soon be complete. Prosti-tots will be able to grow straight into New York Tarts. Pretty in pink and plastic as all get-out.
Mattel’s spokesman is gushy:
“I think Barbie is all about relevance, and we like to think of ourselves as on the cusp of everything relevant from a cultural perspective.”
Wait - it gets better!
“She’s elastic, she’s plastic, and she’s able to represent all sorts of different looks.”
That’s Patricia Field. To celebrate this fashion launch, Mattel has made a special-edition Patricia Field Barbie. Says Field of her tiny simulacrum, “I think it’s the best Barbie I’ve seen in a long time.”

I always wanted to wear the sparkly black sheath dress with the massive tulle ruffle around the hem, and the white silk scarf and microphone, (Solo in the Spotlight) but my real life was more that blue jumper/white blouse combo with the bird applique on the skirt, accessorized with a tray of Cheez Dreems.
