a_hell_of_a_woman.jpgA Hell of a Woman: An Anthology of Female Noir has just been published by Busted Flush Press. Edited by Megan Abbott, with a forward by Val McDermid, the collection includes stories and essays by, among others, Sandra Scoppettone, Sarah Weinman, Ken Bruen, and me.

I have a short essay on one of the classic femmes fatale of film noir: Phyllis Dietrichson (Barbara Stanwyk) in Double Indemnity.

Noir-lovers can check it out at Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Murder By The Book.

That dame sure has a way with smoke. I almost want to take up the habit so I too can appear to be such a cool customer, effortlessly manipulating fumes like that.

Surprising what you can find when you search for “Hell of a Woman” on Amazon

Oh! Noir. I’ve written a couple of shortpieces with a co-writer, one using the traditional idea of the femme fatale. I’m also mulling around an idea even as we blog, so I’ll definitely get hold of this book, thanks Meg.

Has anyone come across the brilliant book “Suspects,” by David Thomson?

He takes characters out of classic noir films and writes potted biographies of them. He also has the characters begin to inter-relate to each other as in a novel.

Well worth a look if your a noir aficionado.
