The Atlas of True Names

December 5, 2008 · 3 Comments

It’s actually more like The Atlas of Original Place Names Translated into English, but still fun. I’m writing this from Hillfort (London) in The Great Land of the Tattooed.

(Note to my kids: I don’t care what Great Britain’s true name is — I still don’t want you to get tats.)

“…And on her jaw was the Royal Flying Corp and on her back was the Union Jack, now could you ask for more?”

You have to love The Kingston Trio.

Um, I’m guessing, but are these lyrics from “Lydia the Tattooed Lady” or “We Came to Town to See the Old Tattooed Ladee”?

Of course, I could just Google it, eh?

The latter, Susan. “The Tattooed Lady”.

I’m not sure who did “Lydia…” originally.
