Operation Warrior Library is a shoestring endeavor run by novelist Paul Malmont and his wife Audrey. Authors donate their books and the Malmonts, with help from the U.S. military, send the books to American troops in Afghanistan.
I found out about Operation Warrior Library from GalleyCat, and am happy to hear that the books I contributed — along with novels by other authors including Jason Pinter and Tess Gerritsen — are now on their way.
For more about how the Malmonts collected and boxed up 700 books, and convinced a generous trucker to donate space on her rig to deliver them to their departure base, read the story here.
And for any authors who happen to be reading this: Operation Warrior Library is looking for more books.

This is just about the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.
I rarely part with any of my books – I don’t even like lending them. However, this is an excellent reason to break my cardinal rule.

Dan, that’s an incredibly generous thought for you to have. Right now I think the project can only handle books from publishers and authors (who can send multiple new signed copies of their novels) but if they get some more logistical capacity, maybe they’ll be able to take donations from readers as well. I’ll keep you posted.
