Must… look… away…

TMC_UKAn advance copy of the British edition of The Memory Collector arrived today. You know what this means, right?

I’m not talking about the fact that in a few weeks this editon will begin to hit bookstores in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, and elsewhere in the Far East. I mean that this cover is shiny. Mesmerizing. Kind of cool and gritty. And once you set eyes on it, you cannot look away. You Must Read This Book.

Or something. I love this cover. It was designed by Henry Steadman.

  1. Very nice. Why do books have different covers in different countries?

  2. Dana Jean, the reason books have different covers in different countries is to alert those in the know that each book with a different cover has a completely different ending. This enhances the joy of the reader in getting multiple stories to read without actually reading the same book twice tied in with the added incentive of roping compulsive collectors into buying multiple editions for a “complete” collection and thereby assuring publishers that their children will attend a very good college. It is also easy on the writer in having to come up with a different ending rather than an entirely new story. Hope this helps. ;>)

  3. Hey, no fair. I like that cover best! Must…have…new…version.

  4. Ohh shiny.
Are you going to be more specific on the UK release date than a few weeks? That’s right I’m being selfish and only enquiring about my own country.

  5. Oh, little book with attractive cover, come to mama! [batting eyes and attempting to look both welcoming and coquettish]

  6. I want THAT one. It will make the wait worthwhile. (Especially with the different ending.)

And unlike those who have already read it, we in Canada, Britain, South Africa and the rest of the non-US English-speaking world still have that pleasure to look forward to.

    Oh joy!!

  7. Okay dammit! There isn’t a different ending, right? Don’t be messing. This is a joke, right?

    Right?!

    right?

  8. Dana Jean: I never give away an ending.

  9. From Meg: Dana Jean: I never give away an ending.

To which should have been added “None of them”. :>)
