USA Today reviews The Memory Collector

USA Today says good things about The Memory Collector in its mystery/thriller roundup:

MEMORYCOLLECTOR“Meg Gardiner got attention in 2007 when Stephen King dubbed her ‘the next suspense superstar.’ In her sixth novel, The Memory Collector, Gardiner stokes her reputation with the second to star forensic psychiatrist Jo Beckett, whom we met in last year’s The Dirty Secrets Club. Her job investigating whether dead people are the victims of murder, suicide, accident or natural causes changes when she’s hired to analyze a man who’s unable to form new memories. Great story construction and a unique premise keep this story moving.”

And that’s my book pimpery for the day. Now back to our regular blogging.

  1. forgive the sarcasm, but which of your previous 6 books doesn’t qualify as a novel?

other than that, excellent news!!! and, once again, i CAN HARDLY WAIT TO GET IT HERE IN CANADA!!!

  2. Cath,

This blog is no place for sarcasm.

But I’m glad the USA today noted Meg’s excellent story construction. While I’m still working my way through – and loving – the first 9 books of the 5-book Evan Delaney series (because I was under a rock for a couple of decades), I’ve noticed that Meg’s books are constructed with excellent quality glue on the spine; smooth, evenly-trimmed paper; and, most importantly – and frequently noted on this blog – extremely shiny covers. Praiseworthy, indeed!

But on a non-sarcastic note, congratulations Meg! Mr. King’s prediction is quickly being realized.

  3. I object. Ron is getting way more humorous than me.

  4. Rich, from your keyboard to my girlfriend’s ears (and rolling eyes)! But rest assured, this, too, shall pass.

  5. Meg, how does one post an avatr by one’s name? Although I can see a point in my being represented by a semi-psychedelic test patter from the planet Macadamia, I have something nearer and dearer to my heart.
Ron, I feel your pain. But I’ll bet I get loads more eye rolls from my wife when I attempt what apparently only Professional Comedians should. She makes Jerry Colonna look like an amateur.

  6. Rich, I believe they’re actually quilt patterns.

However, if you want something more representational, try this:

    and follow the directions.

I was quite surprised when my picture showed up on various unsuspecting blogs.

  7. I have just reread the snippet in USA Today and am annoyed with myself for missing this the first time. Isn’t The Memory Collector the SEVENTH novel for Meg? I never liked USA Today simply because it’s run by the hideous Gannett group. Their lack of fact checking is also a huge factor. Hopefully, my confidence factor will be up after that. I am a borderline Luddite when it comes to new technology but am constantly amazed at my new found ability to turn on a computer. Baby steps. :>)
Susan, thank you for the link. I will give it a try soon. Right now I am preparing for a confrontation with the Republican Machine today over another outrageous waste of money here in Northeast Florida.

  8. Congratulations, Meg!
Sadly, no mention of Mr. Peebles, Ferd, Beanie Babies, or Seven of Jo. Oh well, we must leave some surprises for the civilians, right? :)

  9. P.S. Rich, give ‘em hell! I just happen to like my quilt pattern.

  10. Monita – Battle scarred but unbowed. Surprisingly, my plea to the local paper brought out two reporters, one the senior editor of the OpEd page. The paper, naturally, supports this boondoggle. We who represent the forces “anti the status quo” peppered them with enough embarrassing questions that they now know they are being watched. I’ll follow up at a later date unless, of course, my wife has to drag the river for my body.
I also like the test pattern but would like to change it as my various multiple personalities come out to play. :>)
