Stephen King on The Liar’s Lullaby in Entertainment Weekly

Yes, I am happy that Stephen King has picked The Liar’s Lullaby as one of his 2010 Hits. Hell, yes.

In his August 27th Entertainment Weekly column, “My 2010 Hits and Misses,” he calls the book a Choklit — as in one of the sweet surprises Forrest Gump finds in the chocolate box.

The new Meg Gardiner novel featuring “deadshrinker” Jo Beckett. This rocker features not one or two but three edge-of-your-seat suspense set pieces, beginning with the death of a country singer in front of 40,000 fans (the follow-up: a helicopter collision over the baseball stadium in San Francisco).

His other picks include Inception and Eminem’s new album. The column isn’t yet online, but when it is, I’ll link. In the meantime, go buy every copy you can find and hand them out to everybody you see.

And to Mr. King: Thanks. Again.

  1. I’m constantly on the lookout for Stephen King’s book recommendations; I’ve come across some great books thanks to him. His picks are always right on the mark.

  2. I commented on this on FB too, but it’s so cool it deserves a second “darn cool.” Why I said darn rather than damn, I’m not sure. Keeping FB G rated I suppose. Probably should do the same here, but ah well..too late.
Had it not be for a S.K. recommendation on the cover of one of your books, I may not have picked up the book— can’t now recall which of yours I first read. I owe Mr. King a thank you for pointing me in your direction. :)

  3. Mr. King was the one who first got me reading your work. There are just so many authors and books to read that you never can tell who will be good or not so good.

It was about 3-4 years ago when Stephen recommended China Lake as a great read. I immediately ran out, bought it, read it and agreed with him.

I’m thrilled that he’s still a fan of yours, because so am I.

P.S. I’ve been reading Stephen King since the days of Firestarter and Cujo when I was in grade 6 and 7.

    • I have Stephen King to thank for bringing my work to people’s attention – and I have you to thank for picking up my books. I appreciate knowing that you’re still reading!

  4. Awesome! I also have Stephen King to thank for finding you. I still remember reading the article thinking “I went to school with a Meg Gardiner. Could it be the same person?” Then I Googled you and found out you were! I’m glad I found you and have enjoyed all your books.

If I’m at the store and see the magazine, I’ll be sure to buy a copy!

  5. yet, another reason to love S.K.!!!!

  6. That’s fantastic, Meg. And well deserved!

  7. Oh yeah! Well done, Meg.

  8. Saw it in our copy yesterday. Woot! I KNEW he’d choose your book. He’s your biggest fan.

  9. Bonus! Soon there will be millions MORE who realize what a talent you are.

  10. A little off topic, but I didn’t find out about your books through SK, I actually found it on a take a book, leave a book shelf. When I was done I left it out in public hoping that someone else would find it and enjoy it as much as I did.

  11. And the thought that Tabitha King didn’t like Forrest Gump has me hyperventilating. I loved Forrest–(much better than the horrible book–Well deserved Oscar for adapted screenplay Eric Roth!)

Life IS like a box of choklits. Sure, they’re all SUPPOSED to be sweet, but, just because they are, doesn’t mean they taste GOOD. You bite into something thinking it’s going to be great and EEEGADS! it’s some disgusting horror hidden inside.

I totally suspended disbelief and loved that movie.

And I love your books. I found you through Mr. King and I’m so glad I did. Thank you for your wonderful books. They have kept me engaged and my mind busy.

  12. I read this morning that Stephen King’s fence was recently damaged in a traffic accident. The article also stated facts about several stalking incidents that I was unaware of. It’s such a shame that Mr. King, who is known not only for his gifts to American Literature but also for his incredible philanthropic work, has to pay the price of celebrity. He and his family deserve better…
