The Specsavers ITV3 Crime Thriller Awards were much fun. Congratulations to the winners of the CWA Daggers, and to the television and film winners.
The event was glam (notice how quickly I’ve adopted celeb speak?) All guests were invited to walk the gauntlet past press photographers and paparazzi, though — I hate to break it to you — the photogs were happy to let writers walk on by. And I would have, but the Husband stopped me and said, “Dammit, you are getting your photo taken.” And so we posed, and the snappers decided we Were Somebody, and turned their giant lenses on us and snapped away.
The whole event was stylish and civilized. However, I’ve decided that I should start a sideline in having catfights on the red carpet, to give any willing celebrities a boost in their publicity profile. I’ll call it Pick a Fight. (For example: “Keep away from my a) man! b) script! c) wig!”)
Until then, here are a couple of photos. Top is the ballroom at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Mayfair, with the stage covered in crime scene tape (foreground: Chris Simmons of CrimeSquad.com, who’s a judge for the Creasey Dagger, and, behind him, Ali Karim, with his hand bandaged because of a cryogenic burn). Bottom (behind Canadian author Michelle Spring) is Benedict Cumberbatch, who won best actor for the BBC series Sherlock.
The awards were filmed and will be shown in the UK Tuesday October 12 at 9 p.m. on ITV3.

A.) I don’t mean to appear prickly, but, judging from the quality of the photos posted, I can only assume that you decided to fully embrace the theme of the awards and took these photos with a lipstick camera.
2.) After all of that slathering and hairdo-redoing, is there not even one photo of The Husband and his date upon which your loyal readers may gaze adoringly?
iii.) Very cool! Hope you had a fabulous time!!!
Clandestine photos–cool and atmospheric. Thanks.
On a completely different note–Michelle Spring is Canadian? That is, of course, delightful.
