RIP Leslie Nielsen.

  1. I was so sad reading about this earlier today. I sincerely hope you will rest in peace Mr. Nielsen… and thank you for some wonderful belly laughs.

  2. Damn. Not as if it’s surprising or anything: he had a long run. But still. I’m a fan both of his later deadpan comedy work and of Forbidden Planet. And I would never call him Shirley.

  3. “You track a man about as quietly as I pass wind.”

He’ll always be Sgt. Buck Frobisher to me.

  4. This really made me so sad. I love this guy. I loved him in Creepshow, Airplane, Police Squad movies and I was always tickled to spot him in parts in the beginning of his career.

My mom waited on him at a jewelry store and told him he looked like Leslie Nielsen. He said he got that a lot. He was super nice. Only that night on the news did she learn he was in town.

We’re at a point in movie history where we don’t have that many true stars left. In my book, he was a star.

I will miss his performances very much.

  5. This is sad news, indeed. His serious roles were a bit before my time, but I think he found his true calling in his many comedies. He was brilliant in “Airplane” and the “Naken Gun” movies. He will be missed.

I think I may pull out my copy of the “Police Squad” series DVD tonight. Those episodes never fail to make me laugh.

  6. I was married to a Shirley, so as a big fan of Mr. Comeback In Comedy Nielsen, naturally I often called her Leslie.
And ya know she never got it, just looked at me weird, which really wasn’t all that out of the ordinary, so it really made a joke I could almost always count on.
I think he’d of kinda likd that, I mean you gotta have a straight man (or woman of course), and the more unwitted the better;-) .
Thanks for the line, all the yucks, & sincerely, Laugh In Peace!

  7. Swamp Fox! No. I will raise a glass in your honor tonight. “A glass? What is it?” “It’s a clear object that holds liquid, but never mind about that. To your honor!”
